Description
Stage6 Sport PRO MK2 variator for Piaggio, Aprilia, Gilera and Vespa
The Stage6 Sport PRO MKII CVT is an updated and powerful solution for optimized power transmission and improved shifting performance on scooters from Piaggio, Aprilia, Gilera and Vespa. The previous version has been revised and adapted to the latest technical standards.
Stage6 CVT - Important innovations and technical features
- Roller weighst in new standard size 19x15.5 mm: The change to the modern roller weight and roller size format (19x15.5 mm, 7 g) improves both the performance and the durability of the CVT. The increased durability of the rollers also reduces maintenance requirements, which is particularly beneficial for long-term users.
- Hard-coated back and roller tracks: The backside of the CVT pulley and the roller tracks are hard-coated, which increases durability and enables consistent performance even at high speeds.
- Uncoated running surface for better performance: The deliberate decision not to coat the running surface increases friction and thus improves performance. Another advantage: Spalling, which can occur with hard chrome-plated running surfaces, is avoided, which prevents premature wear and possible belt damage.
Adjusting Stage6 Sport Pro variators
The variator is tuned as standard for use with 50cc cylinders in conjunction with a Stage6 Pro Replica exhaust. However, it can also be installed in other configurations, but then additional adjustments are required, such as adjusting the rollers and, if necessary, replacing the contra spring with a harder or softer model.
To further optimize the performance of your Piaggio 2-stroke scooter, we recommend combining the CVT with a Stage6 Sport Pro clutch from the same series, together with a new clutch bell and a new V-belt. To make the settings easier, you should get a tuning set with 19x15.5mm CVT weights.
Note: This CVT is preconfigured for newer engines built after 2000. Older models should be tuned by adjusting the weights and using the original counter-pressure spring to achieve optimum performance.
Contents of the Stage6 sport variator:
CVT pulley with bushing
Sliding varnish-coated ramp plate
- Spacer behind the variator
- 6x CVT rollers 19x15.5 mm - 7 g
- Medium counter-pressure spring
Stage6 Sport Pro
The Sport Pro series from Stage6 consists of various CVT components. The variator, clutch, V-belt and complete kit are designed for sport and racing setups.
Stage6 has revised shapes and materials to improve the performance of the CVT compared to the original and to adapt it to the performance increase after installing a sport cylinder.
scooter CVT
Modern scooters are equipped with a continuously variable transmission, the so-called CVT, also called variator.
CVT Parts:
- Front pulley, movable. It contains the variator weights and has a special shape with an inclined surface to allow the V-belt to move freely up and down.
- Ramp plate: Holds the weights in place.
- Variator sleeve: Serves as a bearing for the variator, which moves axially back and forth, i.e., opens and closes.
- CVT roller weights: Adjustment weights that play a critical role in function and performance.
original, Sport and Oversize CVTs
- Original: Original or OEM quality CVTs are equipped with a restrictor to limit the speed to 45km/h. There are riders who remove the restrictor to derestrict their scooter and unleash the full performance without restrictions.
- Sport: Sport CVTs are lighter than the original and are characterized by special angles and a special coating, which increases the top speed, but especially acceleration.
- Oversize: Based on the same principle as the Sport CVT, but has larger dimensions. With an oversize / overrange vario, the performance of the scooter can be increased even further.
You should also always replace the V-belt when replacing the CVT or go for a complete CVT kit.
