Rear Shock Absorber Stage6 R/T MK2 Upside Down Piaggio Zip / Typhoon
Description
Stage6 has once again made an effort and can proudly present the latest version of their high-end shock absorber for Piaggio Zip / TPH: Rear Shock Absorber Stage6 R/T MKII Upside Down Piaggio Zip / Typhoon.
The predecessor model has been considered the ultimate reference in high-end suspension for race bikes for more than 10 years. Stage6 wanted to improve their product a bit more to satisfy even the most ambitious tuners and race pilots.
The Stage6 team worked with the best technicians and engineers, all of them with a lot of know-how and experience in racing and of course in all things Piaggio Zip. The Zip SP has two single (mono) shocks (this is the rear one), and handling is very different from that of a motorcycle. This is mainly due to the chassis, the height of the seat and the asymmetrical engine block.
Many many runs on the test bench and, above all, extensive live use on the race track allowed Stage6 to develop a shock absorber that can be optimally adapted to riding style and all potential applications to create a precise, responsive suspension that offers optimum grip even under the most extreme conditions.
The Stage6 R/T MKII shock absorber, version 2020, is a gas charged twin-tube coil over shock absorber with external reservoir, the type that is preferred for high-end tuning. To adapt the suspension to personal style, use and track conditions, the shock absorber has the following settings:
- Preload (at spring base)
- Compression (orange wheel)
- Rebound (black knob)
The shock absorber can be perfectly adjusted to the weight of the driver and compression and rebound can be controlled with utmost precision. Adjustment is optimized, i.e. the setting of a single "click" on the wheel can be noticed immediately.
You can also change the height of the rear so general handling and especially braking and cornering can be improved. The shock absorber can be adjusted by +/- 40mm and adapted to all currently available engine cases for Piaggio - original Piaggio, Malossi C-One / RC-One, Polini P.R.E., Top Performances, or Ottopuntouno / 8.1.
Various springs in different degrees of hardness offer even more adjustment options, you can buy them as spare parts.
Please do not forget to order a shock absorber rubber buffer (OE-PIA178149) to ensure best results.
Shock absorber
Basic functionality
Whether motocross, scooter, moped or motorcycle, shock absorbers have a very simple and basic function: they absorb shocks and vibrations to make riding comfortable and safe. Without shock absorbers, you wouldn't be able to reach very high speeds because the wheels wouldn't really stay on the ground.
Since shock absorbers provide the connection to the ground and are therefore one of the main safety elements of a vehicle, they need to be maintained regularly and be fully operational at all times.
What are the symptoms of a defective shock absorber?
A shock absorber is supposed to absorb shocks, but not simply act like a spring, otherwise it would act like a catapult.
If the shock absorber comes up too fast after compression, jams, squeaks or smears oil (oil leak), it must be repaired or replaced.
For motocross machines with high-end shock absorbers that are very expensive, there are repair kits for shock absorbers. However, you will need some technical know-how and special tools to do these repairs.
For scooters and 50cc motor cycles, it's often easier to buy inexpensive new shock absor bers to do a complete replacement like a car.
Simple, adjustable, Racing
Gas pressure or hydraulic, simple shock or complex system - there are many different types of shock absorbers.
On the one hand, spring travel is important, which allows for more or less intensive use, and there are also different options for adjusting the shock depending on the model.
There are simple models like most original shock absorbers on scooters. Shock absorbers can also have different adjustment options that allow the handling to be adapted to the rider, use and conditions. These include shocks with adjustable spring preload, high-low shocks with adjustable compression for low and high speeds, and shocks with adjustable rebound like the ones on motocross bikes.
Racing shock absorbers are the most technically advanced models, they have all the above adjustment options, are made of particularly high-quality materials and often have a special finish (eg, the popular "Kashima coating").
