Description
oil pump
The oil pump is an essential part of an engine, especially in 4-stroke engines where you cannot remove the pump as you can in a 2-stroke engine.
Symptoms of a defective oil pump
If the oil pump is defective, the power will drop and the engine will start to overheat. You will also hear strange rattling noises.
In this case, stop immediately! Without an oil pump the engine will not be lubricated anymore and you risk a massive engine damage.
Alternative to the oil pump
On a two-stroke engine with carburetor you can usually remove the oil pump and close the hole with an oil pump cover. There are oil pump caps for Minarelli AM6, Derbi and even for scooters with Minarelli LC engine like Yamaha Aerox.
Without an oil pump, you must then make the mixture yourself, that is, mix the oil directly into the gasoline with the aid of a dosing aid.
If the oil pump is not defective, it may also be due to a broken or incorrectly installed drive pinion.
