Description
The engineers from MXS Racing, Maxiscoot's racing department, put on their thinking caps and managed to develop another game changing product: the fully programmable MXS RACING Inner Rotor Ignition for Minarelli horizontal (Yamaha Aerox etc.).
The ignition represents the result of many years of development, introducing innovative solutions aimed at taking the performance of race scooters to the next level. The ignition is designed to be combined with other latest generation tuning components.
This state-of-the-art ignition is essential to improve output and performance of race engines since it provides an almost limitless range of programming options to adjust ignition to match your specific engine set-up.
Particular attention has been paid to manufacturing and finishing of this ignition. Manufacturing techniques like CNC-machining and top quality materials (aluminium) ensure reliability and flawless functioning.
It is connected to a 12V / 5Ah battery. The advantage of having an external power supply is the lack of resistance of the rotor/stator unit and reduced inertia thanks to a lighter rotor, which translates into a better acceleration and more power at an earlier point in the power band.
The pre-programmed curve is optimized for single-cylinder racing engines, but you have the option to play around with ignition advance, optimize maps to match your set-up and adjust the igntion to run a twin cylinder engine. The sky's the limit, with a little knowledge and skill you can turn your bike into a beast. Programming is possible for up to 25,000rpm, which should be sufficient even for high-end set-ups.
The MXS R&D department threw existing designs overboard, started from scratch and designed an original new product, with considerably reduced dimensions and weight. Inner Rotor Ignition
An internal rotor ignition is a racing ignition designed to increase performance. Inner rotor ignitions are designed for motorsports and competition, in rare cases they also provide power for vehicle lighting. (e.g. the MVT ignition).
Advantages of an internal rotor ignition
Inner rotor ignitions are the ultimate choice for the race track, they are however not really suitable for street use.
The compact and lightweight internal rotor puts less weight on the crankshaft and allows for quick revving, very high engine speeds and an enormous power increase at high rpm.
Another advantage is that this type of ignition is less susceptible to moisture than standard ignitions.
Tip: You may want to consider a tuning ignition cover with additional holes / cutouts to improve ventilation.
Disadvantages of an internal rotor ignition
RPMs increase faster due to the lower mass, this will affect torque at low RPMs, though. Therefore, internal rotor ignitions are only worthwhile for racing, because on the racetrack you'll constantly stay at high engine speeds.
