The handlebar stem or the handlebar mount on scooters is often used for custom purposes, but can also affect the handling.

Function of a handlebar stem

Mounting a handlebar stem on a scooter has several advantages. Using the proper handlebar mounts, the handlebar position can be adjusted, for better ergonomics and increased riding comfort. In addition, a handlebar stem offers the opportunity to do a little customizing, there are many colors and designs to choose from to match your scooter. The combination of a suitable handlebar stem with a MTB handlebar or motocross handlebar can improve stability, reduce unwanted vibrations and lead to a better handling.

Stem and handlebar installation

Installing an MTB handlebar plus stem requires some adjustments. Replacing the original scooter handlebar means removing the handlebar fairings. So you'll also need to replace the original speedometer with a digital dashboard, probably extend the cables of the existing switches, and add new turn signals if the original ones are integrated into the fairing.

If you want to go one step further, you can replace the original grips with more stylish grips and install a handlebar pad.
