What is today's e-bike used to be the Solex, short for Vélosolex, a bicycle with an opt-in auxiliary engine, and they date back to the 1940s. The rider can chosse to be placed the engine on the front wheel. A roller connected to the engine drives the front wheel. Until the early 60s this optional motor was a great relief, today the Solex, which has not been built since 1988, is more of a cult object. This is the epitome of vintage, and so even today there are many fans of this rather unusual two-wheeler. You can still find a lot of spare and maintenance parts for the Solex.
