MBK 51 - General information
The MBK 51 Magnum Racing, also known as Mobylette or Moby, is a classic moped from Motobécane, France (later MBK), which was launched in the late 1980s. The MBK 51 became the company's flagship and bestseller, although there were other moped models such as the MBK 41. Even today, the Moby with 2-stroke engine remains very popular with vintage moped fans, not least because the classic two-wheelers feature a simple no-frills design and uncomplicated technology. Repairs and tuning projects can be carried out with little know-how and a small budget. The primary drive is belt-driven, while the secondary drive, which transmits the torque to the rear wheel, is chain-driven.
MBK 51 Magnum - Engine
The MBK 51 is equipped with a two-stroke engine. The air-cooled engine has a displacement of 49.9 cc, with good acceleration and remarkable top speed for a vintage moped. The moped can reach around 2.5 to 4 hp. It is equipped with a 14 mm Gurtner carburetor. The CVT or variator on MBK mopeds is available with and without a clutch function. The power transmission between the engine and the clutch is facilitated by a belt in the primary drive, whereas the secondary drive stage—transferring torque from the primary drive to the rear wheel—is accomplished through a cable pull mechanism.
MBK 51 - Chassis
The front wheel suspension consists of a telescopic fork and the rear wheel suspension consists of a spring strut. The front and rear brakes are drum brakes with a diameter of 80 mm.
MBK 51 moped - Features
The MBK 51 was already equipped with a speedometer with a display of up to 120 km/h as well as a tachometer. If you are looking for a new cylinder to restore your moped or a tuning exhaust to enhance performance, you will find what you are looking for in our online store.
