Silencer Packing - when and how to change?
Since the material loses its sound-absorbing properties over time, it is necessary to use new packing material at regular intervals. So if at some point it gets too loud - buy new wool.
When stuffing the silncer, make sure that the material is not wrapped too tightly around the perforated tube in the silencer, but that it sits loosely so that the insulating properties can be used optimally.

Silencer packing is packed into the muffler to reduce noise emissions. There are basically two types of packing material: rock wool and glass wool. Their insulating properties play an essential role in keeping the noise level at the legally required level to avoid fines.
When is it necessary to replace the silencer packing?
Over time and with heavy use, silencer packing can wear out and lose its effectiveness. If you notice that the exhaust is getting louder and louder, it's time to replace the packing.
How to replace silencer packing?
Replacing the wool or mats in the muffler may seem complicated, but you can easily do it yourself.
- Before you start, the vehicle must be completely cooled down.
- Using suitable tools, remove all screws, clamps and clips that secure the muffler. Remove the old packing.
- Cut the new mats to size and pack it into the silencer. Make sure the packing is evenly distributed inside the muffler, lightly compress to achieve a tight fit.
- Reinstall the silencer on the vehicle, tighten all screws.
