Description

Pull starter Puch moped

Pull starter Swiing for clockwise rotating Puch E50 engines with PVL racing ignition, suitable for Puch Maxi S, N or Puch Supermaxi LG1.

Scope of delivery: Pull starter including drive pinion.

Installation Puch pull starter

  1. Starter pinion: Clean flywheel thoroughly. Attach the drive pinion for the pull starter to the flywheel and secure the screws with threadlocker.

  2. Pull starter: Position the starter housing and carefully tap it with a rubber mallet until the starter sits perfectly. Tighten the pull starter.

How to Start an engine with a pull starter

Before each start, pull the rope slowly several times to ensure that the motor turns freely without load. Pull out the handle until you feel resistance. Then simply pull through with a strong pull. We recommend wearing gloves.

Requirements when installing a pull starter

Installing a pull starter means that the pedal mechanism is no longer accessible without adjustments (the pedal arms rest against the housing). Footrests and a longer pedal axle (or a pedal axle extension) are therefore required.

Notes and Safety

Starter motor

Self starters have not been common for very long, today many two-wheelers are started with an electric starter.
For vehicles that can alternatively be started with a kick starter, a failing starter motor may not be the end of the world, but since there are fewer and fewer vehicles with a kick start option, the starter must always work properly.

Starter failure - what to do?

If the engine does not start and the starter motor does not turn, it is not necessarily because the starter is defective. First of all, you should exclude other sources of error:

  • Check the battery with a multimeter, it must indicate more than 12 V.
  • Check the starter relay: Clack test is not sufficient, it must be tested with a multimeter.
  • To test the starter itself, you need to bypass the relay and check if the starter motor turns.

It may be caused by more complex problems. In this case, you should contact a specialist workshop.
