4-Piston Brake Caliper Stage6 R/T MK2 Hard anodized
Description
4-piston caliper radial Stage6 R/T MK2
The new and improved MK2 version of the Stage6 R/T Racing brake caliper, successor to the popular MK1 4-piston caliper. Engineering Made in Germany meets maximum braking performance. Available in Orange, Black and Hard Anodized (extra scratch resistant).
Improvements of brake caliper MK2
The main focus when working on the Stage6 R/T 4-piston MK2 caliper was on increasing stiffness and optimized free movement of the pistons. In addition, user-friendliness was significantly improved by integrating an additional bleeding screw so brake bleeding is now easier than ever. In addition, the new design results in a 20% larger friction surface on the brake pads.
To provide additional support for the brake pistons, Stage6 developed a special return spring that returns the brake pistons to their resting position directly after braking. The result is maximum wheel freedom when the brake lever is in its home position.
Advantages of 4-piston calipers
- More braking power than with 2-piston calipers and improved brake modulation, i.e. the brake can be dosed a lot better.
- Higher heat resistance and therefore longer life than standard calipers. This can be especially important if you ride regularly or are on the sporty side.
- Crisp defined pressure point. Whether on the road or the race track, the caliper ensures even safer handling and the braking point can be delayed until the last moment.
Adapters And Accessories
The caliper works great in combination with the Stage6 R/T brake pumps S6-1400401 / S61400400, but can also be used with other brake cylinders or the original brake master cylinder. The radial mounting of the brake caliper allows an easy and stable installation.
Mounting a 4-piston brake caliper requires additional adjustments. In 90% of cases, the use of an adapter is required to adapt the caliper to front or rear brake.
Note: In combination with older caliper adapters, slight machining of the adapter may be necessary due to the new shape of the caliper.
Technical specifications of Stage6 MK2 radial caliper:
- Brake caliper 4-piston radial CNC machined from high strength 6061 aluminum
- 25mm CNC stainless steel brake pistons
- 20% larger friction surface on the brake pads in Vgl. to MK1
- Special piston return spring for maximum clearance of the rim
- Central locking bolt (Torx 27) for the brake pad with C-clip locking device
- Separate bleed screw at the rear of the caliper for easier bleeding
- M8 bolts, hole spacing 82mm
The brake caliper is supplied with street pads. However, we recommend using racing pads (sintered metal or ceramic) for maximum braking performance. The difference is like night and day - you can expect a perceived increase in braking power of up to 50%!
Here are the matching brake pads:
- Brake pads sintered metal S6-1026002
- Brake pads ceramic S6-1026003
- Brake pads organic S6-1026001
Our tip: After bleeding and assembly, the brake lever should be held for 1 - 2 hours or simply overnight in a pulled position (cable tie / rubber band). This perfects the bleeding process and noticeably improves the pressure point.
Brake caliper
The brake caliper is an important part of the braking system. The brake pads are located in the caliper and are "clamped" by the caliper piston. The piston is driven by the brake fluid and presses the brake pads against the brake disc.
The brake caliper must always be in good condition and must not leak. If you want to repair the caliper on a small budget, you can use one of the many caliper repair kits from major brands like Brembo, AJP, Nissin, etc.
Racing caliper
After tuning measures, where the performance of a motorcycle is increased, the brakes must also be readjusted. You can install oversize kits instead of the original brake discs, or use racing calipers with multiple or larger pistons. Some tuning calipers are made of materials that allow better heat dissipation.
Especially for enduro and motocross bikes, there are various caliper upgrade kits. There are also complete brake kits with brake disc, brake pads, caliper, brake line and brake master cylinder.
For 50cc scooters and motorcycles, we offer 2-piston calipers that considerably improve braking performance. Most calipers are universal and are adapted to a specific vehicle via a brake caliper adapter.
Changing a brake caliper
To install a brake caliper, you need relatively few tools. However, you should make sure that the copper washers on the banjo bolt that holds the brake hose are in perfect condition so that no fluid can leak out.
You'll also need new brake fluid, as you'll need to bleed the brake system. You must remove all air bubbles from the system; you can bleed manually or with a special brake bleeder.
