What the ignition coil do? What to do if the Ignition coil on your scooter is defective?

Ignition coils convert the voltage of the battery into the voltage required for ignition. This usually means converting 12 volts of battery voltage into 16,000 volts of ignition voltage. The ignition coil basically functions like a transformer.

How do I know that the ignition coil is faulty?

A defective ignition coil can usually be recognized by the following symptoms:

  • Scooter does not start
  • Misfiring
  • Poor acceleration or loss of power

If the original ignition coil no longer works properly, you can replace it with an ignition coil in OEM quality , which is virtually identical to the stock part.

Tuning ignition coils

Tuning ignition coils from manufacturers like Motoforce Racing double the secondary voltage from 16,000 V to 31,000 V, this way even a rather modest input voltage leads to a high ignition voltage. The high ignition voltage ensures a clean ignition at extremely high speeds and cold temperatures - this has advantages for tuning freaks, but also the first choice for ignition-related cold start difficulties.
